Across the crowds of distracted workers
hurrying home from another day work,
you appeared.
Our eyes met each other
for the first time and
they felt at home.
They sent a message of memory
so that we would never forget
and would seek and recover
that which was lost.
We lost each other
but only for a day.
The next day
on the crowded station platform
our eyes sought each other
and found what they wanted.
This time our mouths met
for the first time
and they smiled.
But that was all - eye and mouth -
an attraction became a longing.
But we lost each other again
but only for another day.
Finally, once our eyes and mouths
met and welcomed each other,
it was time for our bodies
to meet.
A little old lady came
and introduced us
as we rescued her.
Our eyes spoke volumes on the ride home.
Our mouths smiled and flirted.
Our bodies felt comfortable together
holding the metal pole all the way
to Brooklyn.
But the hand of God had moved us
like pieces on a chess board.
Our lives became joined.
Our souls became one.
Our spirits sang at the union.
And two lone souls,
riding home on the F train,
found their forever home
in each other's embrace.
