In The Shadow Of Giants

GOD'S DISCIPLES

Spiritual giants and shadows cast
Following footsteps in the sand
Sharing wisdom now of knowledge past
So earthly man may understand

They bear witness to God's children below
These giants among mortal man
Upon the unholy they shall bestow
Salvation through God's holy plan

Wandering, they teach of God's precious love
And why Jesus was crucified
God's holy light shining, down from above
These disciples were sanctified

Spiritual giants, erasing doubts
From minds of the lost and impure
Praising God amid persecuting shouts
With patience God's love would endure

Fighting the wrongs of the devil's coerce
Eternal life we shall accrue
Voices still echo through scripture and verse
In testaments of old and new

A worthy topic my friend Sometimes it is not easy to realize we are standing in the shadow of giants, but when we look back we can see their influence all to clearly. I like how you took this towards a different direction, reflecting on how God used men to propagate His word and plan to reconcile a fallen creation to Himself. Well done.

      Great Comment

Thank you Michael, So glad you liked where I took it. I wasn't sure but then as I started writing and this is what came to me. I thought of we are all God's disciples if we spread His words, but I focused on the orginal twelve ones. I appreciate your thoughts dear friend. Thanks again!! Many smiles, You take care. Bless you, Sandy

Seems as Gracious as God's Word...

...when He talks about these "giants", as in Hebrews 11, where their lives are mentioned, minus the slips, stumbles and falls they made along their path of faith.

When we read of them in other parts of scripture, we see Abraham lying (twice), David gawking, or Peter denying, then being rebuked by Paul for being two-faced later on. It also seems Paul struggled with pride, confessed in 2 Corinthians 12.

God is unabashed in talking about His followers. I think He does that so we won't venerate or mystify them, or even idolize them. The hope we find in scripture is often seen in these imperfect "giants" being loved and used by a perfect God.

What makes God's word so trustworthy is how these "giants" appear flawed. I also find it easier to want to do as they did (when they did it right) because I trust imperfect people over supposedly perfect ones.

    truth you shared

yes they were men among men, but with strong faith and strength, beyond what was normal, they vocally spoke what was the truth to all who would listen, Jews and Gentiles. Walking dusty roads, long and hazardous journeys, it was no simple task for anyone, only ones with strong faiths could endure the difficulties.

Hello Jules. Your are so right. His disciples went through so much. I don't know of too many that could endure it today. There are some but back then, these few did the impossible with just faith in Jesus Christ. How wonderful!! Always nivce to read your comments. You have a wonderful day and thanks for always being so nice. Take care, Sandy
