Earth Hymn

What need to reside behind walls of concrete dust
when I can run like a madman,
            naked and unencumbered
      through forest, field and stream,
                converse with magpie,
taste the umbilical cord of a mountain,
become an unopened egg of consciousness
                    in an eagle’s nest.

I who have neglected the myriad forms of original mind,
  forgotten the virginal smile
of my nameless face — now distant,
      brain full of citified trash,
body nothing but a shell wrapped up
              in yellow newspaper headlines.

So irrelevant, so unnecessary . . . soul seized up
in a  broken zodiac of insignificant debris,
yearning to rediscover the infinite music
that emits forth from the lungs of dragonfly,
oak tree and holy natural genealogy.

I cry out, I age and desire to uncover
        the endless variations spinning
              upon this global mandala . . .
      Tibetan silkworms plant seeds inside
                  the soil of my mind
          and I must nurture them
and leave behind the social spider web
I have become a part of.

Thus, I adopt an ancient druid’s robe,
I dance the dance of  the Sioux mystics
      and wander off in search
                of the hymn that whispers
    from the ethereal vibration
                            inside the sacred breast

                                                          of the Earth.

Your word usage is phenominal. The imagery you created lept off the page. The message you deliver is one of discovery of self and the beauty that surrounds us all! I'm quite impressed with the overall power of this write!

Some great word combinations you have created in these lines - very flowing, and vivid with visual images throughout, Can see this being changed or sung to a soft background music beat - enjoyed the read.

Oh my God...this imagery is amazing...I think I've lost any words I can say about this.

"So irrelevant, so unnecessary . . . soul seized up
in a broken zodiac of insignificant debris,
yearning to rediscover the infinite music
that emits forth from the lungs of dragonfly,
oak tree and holy natural genealogy."

    Your words are seraphic.
    I love the image
    I love the tone
And mostly I love the topic.

Good Wiccan roam and love the Earth,

There are far too many original and striking images in this poem for me to repeat them here, so I'll just say that I just loved this poem. You really have a wonderful poetic talent, and an irrepressible humanistic spirit. Great stuff!
