Left Behind

Breaths help as eyes stare intently
Fingers cross as muscles tense up slowly.
The anticipation was great
As they waited for the rest to show
The plane started to leave.
Muscles started to relax
Eyes gently closed
And heads dropped in the sense
Of utter disappointment.

Author notes

On the plane going to Nicaragua, the group got split up because one of the flights got cancled. We waited to see if they got in on standby, but they didn't.

    whats standby?

You did a perfect job of describing the intense situation, and how it felt. I find it amazing that you even wrote a poem about it, its impressingly observant.

Alex, I love this poem. It's so descriptive. You took such a mundane occurence and were able to describe the feelings you had down to the last detail. Felt like I was there with you.
    Wonderful!
