The Price Of Heaven

High walls with golden swinging gates
light reflects and emits from within
even when darkness surrounds
The elegant paved road leads
through the gleaming gates

The gates open and the fortunate
who have done well pass through
to the exclusionary paradise beyond

I have seen the high heavens
they are a gated community
in Colorado, where
rich people live

Please tell me what you think

    Golden Brilliance!

Wow this shines like gold into the heart and mind and soul of the reader, in this case me! Lovely sentiments and yet a powerful message that speaks volumes about what one can afford, nice work and very impactual and yet subtle.
    Clever stuff love it!
    Poetic Hugs,

hahaha, I first thought you were serious about seeing "heaven" this way ... then you made me burst out with laughter ... I love this poem ... the ending is like the famous "revelation" in haiku : very enlightening indeed ...
you seem to have a great sense of humour based on lucidity ...

it is a joy to meet you,

In my town there are places like this where the wealthy people live in mansions with landscaped grounds. I was gratified that one of the wealthy people's teenage daughter had a party while her folks were away and the nicely brought up and expensively educated rich kids and their little chums trashed the house (£20,000 damage) and ransacked it nicking off with the family silver. I walk up there with the dog of an evening and admire the architecture.
I liked the slightly amused yet detached tone of this, and of course the twist and the irony. I also like your hat.
