Sure we are the same,
In so many obvious ways.
We both have eyes that whitness or don't.
Lips that speak justice, or don't.
A mind vieling faith or hopelessness.
We both feel frightened at times,
lonely, desperate and happy.
Sometimes we feel beautiful or ugly.
Satisfied. Sometimes greedy.
But your eyes aren't blue,
And though I can, I may refuse to speak.
I don't believe in God.
These differences cut certain strings,
Mutilate the safety of the bridges that relate us.
These changes change us,
Murder our children and loved ones.
Your brown eyes could see things
My blue eyes may never,
But some of this pain
Could have been produced from my lips,
Or my limbs with my guns,
Or my mind corrisponding with
Your hatred of faithlessness.
When you are injured,
You may bleed and bruise,
As do I.
This equality should make us equal,
But the greed and ignorance
That sustains us
Both alters, and burns our cities.
Our eyes, lips, minds.
Our bodies.
Our dreams.
