Desert Solitaire

Stretching wide across below and above the sky
Life departs to become another grain of sand
Slowly filling the emptiness with souls
Darkening the day

Author notes

Title is an allusion to the book of the same name by Edward Abbey, a truly brilliant book. Fit the wasteland prompt, but only by what the desert has become at the hand of man. etc. etc. Angry ramblings about tourists and the park service. . . .

Hee, hee! Your author notes are longer than your actual poem! Great job getting honorable mention! It's hard to comment on a poem so short, but I'll try.
"Life departs to become another grain of sand"
I like this line. I... it... umm... I dunno...
    Great write though.
    May your pencil stay sharp!

All the natural things seem to depart us too quickly in these times. You write here with an honest sadness that touches the reader in only three brief lines.
