That terrible, drooling black beast
Is the creature I really like least,
And should it appear
I tremble with fear
It's a bit like the ghost at the feast.

Here's a link:

You can go there, type whatever you want and then copy and paste it wherever you like.
Not bad. I've have never thought of writing something like this in a limerick.

You have really approached this contest with a scattergun. There is a circumflex in "bête", by the way. And the view from Dunsinane ( just down the road from me) is so good at this time of year, that no one is looking at the spare dining-chair.

I like to see a well-turned Limerick.

It's taken me long enough to learn to hit the keys in order, withoot doin' circumflexes an a'! But I've added one by the deft technique of cutting and pasting!
Thanks for the kind words. The limerick's better turned oot than I am, I assure you!

Neat and to the point... And a good (literal) use of a phrase so often used metaphorically. But does this really fit a celebration? Well, maybe the morning after!
I do hope to get this competition judged by the end of the working day tomorrow... but in case I cannot - PLEASE do not commenting on other people's work until the results have been announced. -
So, what does the black beast represent?

As they say around these parts, "that's for me to know and you to find out." Have you read 1984? What's in Room 101 - the worst thing in the world. That's what the black beast is: the worst thing in the world.

It gave me nightmares… well almost¡!
Sure ‘tis not what we worders would wis’,
Strong jaws and teeth of the bist!
But I’d like to make clear,
There’s worse things ta fear,
If you go and get Nemesis pissed!¡
Or maybe it’s the same thing… May black shadowy things never darken your doorstep, footstep, coachstep… or any other step¡!
…Oh and I like the French connection – Very Bonnie Prince Charlie!
Being at a loose end the other day I finished your quiz… It is very quiet in there if you need a bit of peace…

For a short poem, this has amazing emotional content, especially lines 3 and 4, which gave me a chill. The darkness of the beast makes it fearsome, if we could see it clearly it would not be so bad. Good luck!
