When your only friend is the cradling night
Hands, like distant lullabies that break the heart
Eyes, like brimstone, so fair and then so sad-
Wreak havoc in majestic fights
Howl murder in the pale moonlight.
When a look is enough to dispel doom
Arms outstretched, reaching for light
That dances across the bridges and plummet
And shatter like wasted dolls;
The music thuds louder and faster
The thunder and tremble of dangerous times
The outside world cares less;
The people sit in curious silence
And ache for your existence.
Steady the senses, for they would crumble
As you fight the urge to flee;
A single look in frightened
Is all that they need to see.
