waking up in the morning with dew smeared across my face
I must have fallen asleep in this serene place
as the sun slowly becomes bigger in the horizon
showing it's blushing face from behind the tree grove
I walk towards a fresh water spring, so clean and clear
the grass skims over my skin and tickles me
I bend to get a drink and hear a snapping of twigs
a mother deer and fawn have the same idea as me
I continue walking to where the spring meets a creek
and see a heron catching minnows out of the water
as a turtle suns himself on a log among frogs
and fish flash through the water in large schools
and I venture into the woods where the stream meets the tree line
there are squirrels chirping in the trees above me
and a wren is warning me to stay away from her nest
while a hawk eyes me, looking down from her high perch
I walk past a cave full of raccoons, now sleeping
they were up all night, running from coyotes
who were hungry and looking for rabbits
as a snake remains still near the mouth of the cave
and all the animals wonder what I am
because they have never even seen
a human before
