Until Her Beast is Satisfied

So I sat with her, facing East
on her broken bridges of despair
accusing blindness of deception
swirling in the waters below;
she chained herself with my kindness
to rotted roots beneath the earth
now covered in a hardened snow
fallen from icy memories…

Tides surge in, biting sharp
with sprays of animosity
that drown with glistening delusions-
we narrowly escape, she locks herself
in a crypt of sinister darkness…

I hear faint echoes of innocence
trapped inside the weeping tree
nearest to the heavy door,
I hear her voice, and then no more…

She freefalls into fantasy
to free her mind from agony
I find her begging shadows there
to take her on a one-way ride
down the winding river of dreams
to seek the ever new beginning…

I find her there, hopeful, fair,
washed up on the mossy shore
deep in melancholy sleep;
her soul imprisoned in dreams of love
locked with keys of loneliness…

I sing a soothing serenade,
her shadow lifts, she reaches out-
I know I’m not her fantasy, but
she needs a hand to ease her doubt…

I can only discern her mask
concealing dim emotions
obscured in the inky dark
of the shattered shards of romantic pasts,
streaks of her many invisible tears
iridescent in the night
tracing sorrows drawn from
the spires of cathedrals tall
that haunt her Gothic nightmares…

Inside, the opera orchestras play
sullen librettos of crimson stains
notes that spill forth through my mind
and dripping, run across my page
each stealing a piece of tranquility
that once defined love in her eyes,
that filled the space beneath her gown,
a violet satin gown, which smiles
and dances as the night arrives…

I lift her up, then slip, and fall
into a lake of silent words
that drown her pain, yet steal her breath
offering only the promise of death;
then, just then, I remember her name…

a name once carried away on the wind
and, settling gently within the oasis
of this desert-worn heart,
offered the promise of a brighter day
that seemed lost forever within the flame
of the scorching suns of tomorrow
suns that seek to rise above
these stone-cold walls that shield me...

I peered into her pale soul
that stirred beneath the canopy-
tainted lips born of the night
the undead of the blank moonlight
came to give her company…

Now a huntress, wily, lean,
catches the scent of blood and veins
that lure her near to where I hide;
hoping she is unaware
I pray to survive her deadly game
and then fangs sink into my throat…

Screaming, sweat, bloody, death,
my warmth runs cold, she whispers soft,
“I’ll have your heart out from your chest”
and, with a eerie lingering beat
she holds it high, its beat dies down
my corporal body falls to the ground…

I follow in the midnight breeze
a slave into eternity
luring victims for her feasts
until the Undead of her Beast
is fed and finally satisfied…

Author notes

Hope you liked my little tale... a nice bright dark birthday surprise for a bright dark poetry daughter who haunts me from a distant starry past... and who of course is not a beast! Happy birthday, Di!

    Good story!
    Haha...I wasn't expecting a vampire!
    Haha, I read it twice!
That's my rule...especially with books...I have to read everything twice because then I catch more stuff and make connections and stuff...and I rarely catch all the symbolism in a novel on the first go-around...but it's been know to happen!
*cough* Great Gastby *cough* Ahhh...Dasiy you big symbol, you! *shakes fist at ceiling*
    Sorry...now I'm ranting...anyway
"her soul imprisoned in dreams of love
    locked with keys of loneliness"
    Love that!
    "Chained herself with my kindness"
    Love that too!
