Tsunami

He blasted the winds and brought out the rains,
causing the ocean to bubble and swell;
it oozed with anger and snapped its worn chains,
eruption of mass to cause the land hell.

He blew bad weather so evil would reign
and waves to lick ev'ry dwelling and shell;
in tidal motion to show his disdain,
he licked the people to their deaths as well.

All land and livestock the Devil did drain,
he graced the land in his cold putrid smell;
he swallowed all life, each cut and each grain,
his greedy tirade, this hunger to quell.

His tears ravaged loss in blood-curdling yell,
waters caused carnage 'neath Devil's harsh spell.

~ The aftermath ~

Trail of human suffering, as it fell,
where the destruction stopped no one could tell.

Devastation, bodies scattered the streets,
the horror that is left along the path;
everyone’s heart feels the woe of defeat,
Satan’s evil jeer, "aah’ the aftermath!"

Word travelled throughout the world with such speed,
searching for survivors has just begun;
people together, helping those in need,
trying to recover from what is done.

Bodies of victims placed in one mass grave,
assistance comes in from around the world;
support and love comes out from Satan’s wave,
it is the goodness shown the world has swirled.

    Heartbreaking sonnet

    When I think of the thousands lost during the most recent tsunami, my heart and prayers go out to all of those loved and lost on that fateful day. It's difficult to fathom what good can come from something so disastrous, but it somehow does in the compassion from every corner of the globe. I just wish more could be more compassionate to their neighbors. One person at a time is better than none.
