My Missing Son

From the moment you were born
You were my Child of Moonlight
The doctors placed you in my arms
I had so many dreams of you and me.

And as you grew up older
You became my miracle of beauty
The playful memories you gave to me
A beautiful song to heal my heart

When your loving mother became ill
The Prince of Darkness came to take her away
You could tell Daddy was scared
So you held my trembling hand

You told me the birds of heaven will fly
Carrying your mother with love on their wings
creating a distant path of light
To one day take us there too

Because you had so many dreams
which shine brighter than the heavens stars
Pains washed away by the swift flow of time
You were forever my miracle

Once you came home bullied from school
I was so mad - I wanted revenge
You told me to let God judge them
or Hate would consume me too

And when Winter fell on city skies
Snowflakes all around our heads and in the wind
I always knew I could find
A glimpse of summer's heatwaves in your eyes

Gazing at an overcast sky
It reflects in my black eyes
Sadness driven so deep in my heart
what twist of fate has taken you from me?

God made a beautiful thing
And the Devil took it his way
What nature gives
She can so quickly take away

I wonder how many dreams have been left
to the sky beyond the flying birds?
Has God allowed one of his angels to fall
to this unreachable place?

Go now, fill your dreams if you need to
I dont want the tears to spill
Your lifelight will always burn inside of me
Until I hear your gentle whisper again

Author notes

This is a poem about a father who's young son has gone missing. I wrote it because young people are going missing all the time in the world and its not documentated enough. Hope you like it

This is so incredibly beautiful in a sad and bittersweet way. The story is so filled with detail and every emotion that one can imagine a parent would go through in all of these trials in life. So many things seem to have been overcome, only to lead to another tragedy or obstacle.

I hope and pray for this family, it touches my heart and for all of the children (I personally know someone who's child has been missing for several years) who are missing...I think of them, their parents and their families.

Thank you for this wonderful write and for shedding light and making others think and remember, even if only for a moment, that this is going on and to be mindful and remember hope and faith for those that suffer this way.

    Best of luck!
