Does not exist
However, when I look at
my weekly wages and deductions
It makes me think that it does
Because right after the
Federal government takes a third,
and the State takes their sixth,
and the city takes their sixteenth,
Medicare takes their thirty seconth
Although, my wife, my kids, and myself
are not covered or provided for by this
transaction. I wonder...
Where does everyone's thirty seconth go?
To the place of the missing sock and car keys?
To the hair club for men?
Does it go to our brave children dying
in foreign wars over nothing but money?
Perhaps it goes to the minorities that choose
not to go to county hospitals for care.
Have you seen a county hospital?
How can the richest industrialized nation
on the planet spend over 500 trillion dollars
on a war that has no meaning beyond oil,
and not even one ninetieth of that amount
on its own citizen's future and medical health?
Our government governs nothing but its own needs and wants,
and what you need and want as compared to what they need and want
are apples and oranges. Invest in children America,
not in murder and bad energy choices.
Only united as a people can we topple the few
that control this system. When America spends
more a year on bombs, malls, and bad TV
than children, healthy living, and families
I begin to know why so many Americans are
killing themselves and their spouses and children
for ridiculous reasons (Chris Benoit etc...)
It's because we are emulating our leaders
that happily kill us off, or imprison us
for no other reason than money.
Revolt lemmings, that is not your coat
We are not all equal in the eyes of
our fore-fathers. The pecking order of the medical
and justice system starts with money, and ends
on the heads of those without.
That's hardly liberty and justice for all.
That's liberty and justice for the well off.
Please tell me what you think

Hey! Maybe if I leave you a review a day you'll post something just to shut me up?
Just kidding. I'm just playing with you. I wounldn't do that I don't think.
I remember reading this before and laughing. Not because it's funny but because it's so sadly true. It's so hard to organize people though. No one seems motivated to do anything anymore. Everyone's just burnt out with life and war right now. It would be a rainbow in the sky, if we could improve our health system and get more people covered. Going to the hospital shouldn't seem like a luxury... but it really is.
It costs more than going on a cruise for a week and having fun. How sad is that?

A lot of truth in your words. Would that we took some of that money spent on war and took care of the needy. I know I'd rather see my money go there than into placing young men and women in harms way. Good stuff. Take care and Have fun. Steve

This comes under "MUST READ" heading. It is spot on. Quite frankly, those outside America looking in could never really understand how such a wealthy nation can treat it's underclass in such a shabby manner. This extends to schooling, dental, housing. Its just wrong and this points out that wrongness. Good writing.

The notion that 'ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL' is only true IF you define the word MEN the same as the ones who adopted it as a creed (Doesn't it seem ironic to you that the man who wrote it actually owned slaves?). Shades of George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' here.... Seems in this country some are more 'equal' than others. It's American duality at its best. I agree wholeheartedly with your essay.
Sincerely,

tell it like it is
is that not the truth...taxes, do they really feed the cause... -
Hmm... I like your poetry that is more focused. Only "are emulating are" is supposed to be "are emulating our". Other than that it is interesting, though on the subjective level I dislike how the lines are broken off. Good message though

Right on again
I know where your missing money goes--
to the sex fund cause we are sure getting screwed on a regular basis, but it ain't no fun.

HELLS YES, I so tottaly agree with this, my parents think I dont understand anything when I talk about this kind of stuff, but as a student I understand more than they think, especially with all the crappy teachers and schools. yet the states don't give damn its all for war.. and nothing more... your are awesome

Im right behind ya. Great work! All very true.

WOW!!
I think this is excellent..Not only the piece..but the comments as well....I agree with every bit of this write..I for one am sick of working my ass off for nothing...Last year it cost me 1700.00 for my 3 children to register for school..by the end of the year I had paid in what it would have cost me to send them to a private school...This year..it increased..I will pay 2.400 for the three of them to attend public school...this money has to be paid in full before they can attend!!.. I make exactly 40.00 over what our government says I should make in order to qualify for assistance with educational fees...I stood in line last year at my sons high school for over an hour watching countless people receive waivers wearing designer clothing..while I wrote out my 325.00 check wearing sneakers that I got three years ago...
We need change...without any doubt..
Excellent write..thanks for letting me rant..smiles
Peace...

What I find a crime is that the insurance company that I pay good money to each month to pay for my health insurance can dictate what medicines I'm allowed to use even if the physician wants me to use something else because it works better, dictate what tests are performed on my body even though my physician feels a more detailed test needs done and will pay $528 every 3 months for allergy serum and $25 a week for allery injections but will not cover the $ 50 every 3 months for allergy medication so I don't have to get the injections...makes no sense at all to me.
Great thoughts here!

So true you are
You said it all and when we go to the dr it cost us 200 or more just for a bottle of pills when the minority pays 5.00 a month and they get theirs free but they ought to look out in the parking lot to see what those destitute people are driving . Its highway robbery and I myself am getting tired of paying their bills for them

I'm applauding as much for your comments on this as for the poem, itself.

At the age of 70... well next month I'll be 70, I'm just beginning to feel the pinch of medical expenses. Oh, sure, I have medicare which helps, but I still pay out of my SS check each month and a co-pay when I go to the doctor. Up until a few months ago it had been many years since I'd been to a doctor but still paid the SS premium.
I agree that we need some kind of medical reform, not sure what, but there's too many of us who simply cannot afford good insurance. I could write a long rant about my own feelings on the subject but your piece pretty much says it all. Our money and concerns sure goes to many of the wrong places.

HMO's and Megabytes
scare me...
UFO's no problem
anyway.. you have me thinking of Moores new movie.. (not going to pay to go see it but anyhoo)...
Being a free market capitalist (to a good degree), I am always in favor of letting the market deal with things, and keep government as far away as possible. From my LIMITED knowledge, I had heard that in almost everywhere free medical care is offered, the waits are unbearable, and the quality of care not so good. I also had a conversation with a friend in Canada who said her health care was similar to mine and then when she moved here she found it the same lol...I have read stories of patients from Canada and Britain coming here to the US for major treatments, ie cancer, transplants, etc. I don't see anywhere in the founding fathers ideas of governments role that would lend itself to our tax dollars being used to fund socialized medicine. And then I hear stories of how we go to Canada and other places for Prescrips and procedures... all mixed up it is to me..
I think of countries with socialized medicine and thought they have incredibly HIGH income tax... so they are really paying for their care anyway.. It also seems that our emergency rooms are filled with morons that go for COLDS!!!! sorry but what a friggin waste of time!!!
I remember how my gramma used to laugh at the idea of medical insurance.. she would pay cash to the docs office visit and carried a catastrophic type of policy for serious hospitalization stuff..
A very good plan for the time. A component of our rising health costs are people expecting their plan to pay for everything. If people paid for their regular care our costs would be much lower.
As a tangential example, look at the cost of windshield replacement. Glass is still melted sand, but as this society has shifted from (payed off) owned cars to leased/ownership-under financing (which require full coverage) the cost has risen greatly. Glass companies advertise "We cover your deductible, and a free ____" gift. Now how do you suppose they can afford to do that? Once people don't have to pay for something they are much more apt to use it, and, for this example, not only do they not pay they're rewarded to have a "procedure" done at no out of pocket cost.
ehhhh I will shut up now...out of everything, personally my expirience has been very good with american healthcare.... but i also am a police officer and in the county with county insurance if i go to the drs it is usually job related and well... they take care of officers really well.
I have no idea even where to start with solution ideas and i guess with my reply i ranted and thought abit too....
sorry it was soo long.
my apologies

I know what you mean
I get it; You gotta' stand for something or you'll fall for anything. Still, people aren't packing boats and fleeing this country under the cover of night for the simple fact that this is a great country in so many other ways. -

Here's some quick math, because A. I think you're a bit high on what Americans think is freedom:
1. You are not innocent until proven guilty unless you have the money and collateral for bail and a good lawyer, otherwise you are sitting in Jail for over a year or two just to get your day and court. That means no family, no more job, no more income, you lose everything and then when you're found innocent do you think you get your job, and wages and family back (if they haven't left you because of the stigma)? No you don't. It's "oh well, sorry about that". Guess what my friend? That's not justice. That's a fucking farce, and the government should be held accountable for that.
2. America was built on the Standard Oil company owned by the rockefellers. We have enough oil stock piled that we should be paying a buck a gallon if that, not this imagined inflated hoopla. Imagine what the climate's going to be like when the chinese and the indians get off their bikes and have a two car garage and SUV's in the next thirty years. Inventors of free energy are usually always killed, imprisoned, or ruined because of their inventions which never see the light of day, why? Because if you own the largest reserve of oil on the planet? Who will you sell it to if cars run on salt water, sun, and electricity? No-one becasue no-one will need it. they will never let that happen.
3. 90% of all crime and divorce is becasue of money. Americans spend more time thinking about money then they do anything else. You are driven mad to make it. It's all that matters. You can't even visit a national park without money. You can't even go to yellowstone without money.
money is a magical talisman created by magicians to control you, and it does.
4. Education, how can America the richest country in the world have the largest majority of supposed educated idiots? Here's how, only with money can you furbish a real education. There is no such thing as a public college. Why? Because smart people can't be made to do stupid ass shit, but stupid people can. Keep them stupid, that's their motto. Even public highschool costs money to go to these days, and then what? What does a highschool education prepare you for? How to dress in trend, how to run with cliques, and how to feel like you belong to a group with similar interests AKA the mall, nice cars, clothes, and friends. How many poor mexican gardners do you know on the hollywood red carpet? None. A decent education should be free. Big ten colleges and ivy league schools harbor 90% of America's elite with the other ten percent landing on minorities to provide a visual so called balance. these people run your world, and they get the best jobs. So how can it be called a free market of trade and balances if 90% of those that control it are anything but average normal people like you or I.
Show me the man that needs no religion, no church, no money, no friends, no magical yellow smoke blown up his ass to feel like everyone else, and I will show you a real american and a real hero. Even the fucking Satanists and evangelicals are afraid to be alone and act alone without a group. The individual has been sacrificed to the corporate machine in order to fuel along the progress of what you call "America, at least it's better than everywhere else". My advice to you is visit Holland. I'm not saying they are any better. but at least an individual's rights are respected and put first there without the illusion.
here's some math, here's how many people are in America
301,139,947 let's say a third are kids that don't work, and throw in the retired to boot; leaving us with 200,000,000 working Americans...
Okay, say they make an average of around 20,000 a year which is shit, but I'm being high with the number to give you the benefit of the doubt. out of that 20,000 around 6 grand is going to taxes, social, medicare etc... if not more. now multiply.
200,000,000
x 6,000
_____________
1,200,000,000,000
that's a year. now, I'm no accountant, but I think
we could spend that money a lot better than by hiring retarded politicians to mediate it for us, so they can spend it on wars, and
more expensive colleges. I'm pretty sure 1.2 trillion dollars a year (which is low balling it) could feed and educate a few of the lesser thans. Oh, but then who'll mow your fucking lawn while your snap shot 18 year old titties on vacation in havasu? God forbid we should all be equal. That would fuck the whole chain of command up. That might open up some kid's mind to better possibilities for their friends and families than joining the military, or the post office, or robbing banks, and gambling because they think the Sopranos is REALITY. America glamourizes crime, booze, drugs, celebrity while never showing hardwork, love, family, or education. We have no soul, and no future.
-
That's because:
A. Where would they go? Most Americans speak only one language and poorly at that. I won't even go into our geography abilities, because 90% of Americans think
The District Of Columbia is a coke farm in Bogota.
B. So many ways? Name them. Because comparing us to the rest of the world is easy when the rest of the world is kept in third world country status thanks to the global elite.
C. Oh you mean because we have electricity and cable, but wait... Shouldn't electricity be free? Tesla was killed because indeed, yes, electricity is everywhere and can be easilly harnessed and given away.
D. Jobs? hardly, maybe if you're a carreer minded Jew
or East Indian bent on a professional carreer. Otherwise
get ready for a lot of hard work for very little.
I guess when comparing cancer to AIDS one goes with cancer, and calls it great. My argument however, is why have either.
But I'm a Libertarian, that means less government, and more individualistic freedoms. My taxes should not pay for a miserable experience for me at the DMV, post office, police station, or hospital. As a former Navy SEAL I know first hand how much tax dollars goes to war machines and not children it's a 100 to 1. Why build underground military bases that cost 300 billion each, when you could take that money and cure a disease? Ask the tough questions, don't settle for the common denominator.
