Her Reply, Through A Dark Mist Descending

I am the white hot flame
the fire that feeds you.
I am the standing stone.
I am the mistress who eludes you.

I let the love around you die.
I am the prison where you lie.
I am the chain that binds you.
I am the chasm in your pain.
I am the walk before you.
I am the life you cannot gain.

If you seek me
you shall lose your sight.
If you find me
you shall lose your hands.
If you touch me
you shall lose me.
If I am
then you are not.

I am the cold blue light of morning,
when everything is clear.
I am the love
you hold most dear.

I will not be your love
I will not be your friend
and if you come too close to me
I'll flee you like the wind.

I am the Goddess that you wanted
and the demon in your soul.
I am life
and I am death
and I am
that fire that you would hold.
I am everything and Nothing
and I am very cold.

I am the strangler and the headsman,
I am old,
yet becoming
I am all you want to be
and all you cannot have.

I drive the mighty engines
I turn the massive wheels
I light the heavens
and bring darkness with a smile.

and in my heart lies madness
and it's there you'll end this tale
              Lost in the depths
                      that lurk within this vale.

I have charted your pain,
followed each new path that you create;
I set you free,
yet you return
to grovel at my feet
I throw you to the cold
yet you shiver, and scribble on.
I am the eye that devours you,

I am that pain that binds you
I am the wound that sets you free.

I have driven others mad,
took every thing they had
left them drooling at my door.
I'll pitch you from my highest cliff

just to end this thankless chore.

WOW! I normally find it very hard for long pieces to hold my attention, but I couldn't stop reading this! Excellent work... your muse may be a cold mistress, but she rocks!

    One who knows and understands

Muses can be gentle if our hearts are gentle. They can all so be the wickedest task masters you have ever seen. This is a piece that forces you to see it. It demands that you open your eyes and consume it, but not in huge bites, bites that allow you to savor it and taste each ingredient. Thank you for entering.

Lute, this was fascinating and startlingly original. I know what it implied, very effectively, but I'm not sure that what it said was 100% logically coherent - if you understand that difference. But I didn't care. wow. excellent.

    Not a monologue.

    A die-a-logue.

    Said She.
    Said He.
    Said They.

    Not Love.
    Not Hate.
    Not love-hate fate.

    A maddening state.

    Destroy the toy.

    Create.
