To The Republic for Which It Stands

Once conceived by patriots passionate and bold
As a symbol of freedom and unity,
I am yet recognized today by both young and old
In every proud and democratic community.

I am a simple standard of colors and shapes
That is flown proudly no matter the weather
And there are times, when over a coffin I am draped
As grieving family and friends come together.

Over blooded field and through lead bullet storms
I have been bravely carried as a banner
And so goes the story of how freedom was born,
By way of sacrificing compatriotic manner.

I am honored to represent these United States
As well as those who flew proudly before me
And I pledge to never wane or capitulate,
As long as there are those who adore me.

Although I am only made of cloth and dye
Stitched together in a most simple way,
It is what I represent as I am hoisted high
That many people pay tribute to today.

Once conceived by patriots passionate and bold
As a symbol of freedom and unity,
I am yet recognized today by both young and old
In every proud and democratic community.

Very nice, it did not lose my attention at all, as some in this contest have. It introduced a new theme every stanza and was nicely represented, as well. Thanks for entering and keep up the great work.

Thank you young lady, I deeply appreciate the gold. I am touched by your patriotism and it warms my heart to see that
there are still Americans out there that care about our flag and what it represents.

      God bless you, and America.

I think this is a great depiction of our flag and what it represents in all of us, our highest ideals and our way of life that we shall protect and defend unto death.
