From Anne to Elizabeth

Goodbye my little Elizabeth.
Soon I will be executed,
because your father thinks,
that I am unfaithful.
Once I was engulfed by his love letters.
For me he got rid of Queen Catherine.
Now he is calling me disloyal,
and getting rid of me from this House of Tudor Royal.
My only crime is having you,
instead of a son.
So my head will be chopped,
and your father can be again wedded.
This is my last prayer,
my beautiful daughter.
You will become the glorious Queen,
and for ages you will reign.

Author notes

This poem is an imaginative speech of Anne Boleyn to her daughter Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth I).

I love that you made this a speech to Elizabeth. She barely knew her mother, having her been taken when she was barely born. Lovely write!
