Love vs Love

"I'm confused." MY daughter had that look in her eye that she was setting her dad up, and looking forward to seeing him squirm.

"If you love everyone, how are you able to be in love with someone? Aren't you in love with everyone?"

"Well..." I began brilliantly. "Do you love music?"

"What does that have to do with loving someone?" I gave her a look. "Yes. I love music." She said reluctantly.

"Do you love all music the same?"

"Of course not. Some I love and some I don't."

"Maybe you love some music well enough you would be willing to listen to it every day for the rest of your life?"

"Yes."

"Do you see where I'm going with this?"

"No."

"OK. You can't love music just by loving the category 'music'. You love music by loving the manifestations of it, the compositions. You can't hear music without hearing a composition. Right?"

"Right."

"You also love the spirit through loving its manifestations, people. Some people you will love enough to spend every day with. Others not so much."

"So you love everyone, but, some you are in love with."

"Yes."

"How do you narrow it down to one?"

"Good question! I tend to be brutally honest. That scares most away."

"You scare everyone away, don't you."

"So far, so bad."

"Why don't you be nice?"

"I need someone stronger than that. The only way it will work for me is to be difficult, and hope somebody likes difficult."

"Yeah. I see that."

I think she did.

Kinda sorta...your daughter is lucky to have you as you are to have her...if this is a true conversation and she responded so directly to you, you, as a father, have prepared a wonderful soul to walk this life journey. Oh, and I liked the poem, the dual voices...you do that better than anyone I've read here, so far. I almost forgot I was reading a piece written, but felt more like being an eavesdropper on this private chat. Well done! Peace, Rhonda

    A very enlightening conversation...
You write well in both voices -
and the message is one to remember.
