First, just smile
And say with conviction,
"I can do it."
Then take the hand
Silently asking
For the warmth of yours,
And say that
"We'll get through this,
You and I."
Third, allow yourself to cry,
Allow the tears to flow freely
And not overwhelm you.
Fourth, fall in love!
Let the wild, carefree ways
Of love overtake you,
To care for another
As much or ever more than yourself.
Fifth, spread the love
To those who want it,
Especially to those who need it.
Sixth, smile...
Reflect upon the past,
And finally say:
"I did it."

Inspired by How to Save a Life by The Fray. Homework poem, yet again. My Poetry block is making me churn out poems. We listened to songs for Poetry and my teacher had us each write a poem inspired by this particular song.
