There was a time
Back then you know
When roses held real beauty
The glow, sparkle
and shine of it all
Held true life and meaning
But that was then
This is now
Things are all hazy
Since I lost you
I have some news
Those roses aren't so beautiful
Black as tar
Dead as night
They are paying tribute to you.

You managed to put this across in a good way, making sure that it was not cliche. I like the line 'Those roses aren't so beautiful', it attacked me, with sadness, but also a slight bit of anger, like a thorn. Good luck, and thanks for this entry. Xx

well done....the rose metaphor can easily be overused, but you managed not to, I think...good luck in the contest!

Nice poem. I really liked it. My favorite stanza was:
The glow, sparkle
and shine of it all
Held true life and meaning
I noticed some emotion in the poem. The glow and sparkle from stanza #2 died out.
