Titanic

Icy waters and icy hearts...
That's what filled the sea on that fateful day.
Men, women, and children,
lost forever in the blink of an eye.
Never to be seen again.
Innocent people,
people the same as you and me,
people who thought it was just another ship...

It was not just another ship.
It was the ship that lead so many to their watery graves.
So many who would have gone on,
gone on to have children,
gone on to raise families,
gone on to do things, incredible things,
but alas, they are no more.

No one could have known.
Known they were eating their last meal,
saying their last words,
praying their last prayers,
closing their eyes, but one last time.
No one could have known of the tragedy that awaited them.

What if the ship's design were different?
What if the lookout had payed better attention?
What if they had took another couse?
What if there were more life boats?
What if there were less passengers?
What if?
What if...

We cannot dwell on the what if's,
although so many cloud our minds.
Innocent people died that day,
so many innocent people...
but there is nothing we can do to change that now.
All we can do is pray for them,
and give them the respect they deserve.
So many people,
they were so brave,
yet so scared.

Over two thousand people went into the water that frosty night.
Seven hundred came out.
Only seven hundred.

Perhaps if something, anything, had been different,
that night could have been avoided.
But until we accept the past,
we'll have no future.
It was an unfortunate ordeal,
the Titanic,
but everything happens for a reason,
and God has a plan for all of our lives.

So instead of crying and regreting,
just pray for the victims,
pray for the survivors,
and know that they're in a better place.

A very tragic day indeed. Your poem was beautiful. I've always felt a connection with Titanic for some reason, and you did such a wonderful job on this piece. It's hard not to think about the what if's. You're completely right throughout the piece. All we can do is pray and respect those who were aboard. I love this piece, it's so heartfelt and just simply beautiful. You seriously deserve more than only 3 applause for this piece.
