What hast thou been, oh rock?
Hast thou been part
Of the earth's core,
Worked up to the mantle,
Spewed out in a volcano?
Or hast thou been part
of the mighty mountain?
Broken off and washed
Down the stream by floods
to thy resting place here?
Or was thou sediment?
Buried under tons of dirt,
Pressed into rock
And slowly brought back
To the surface?
What wisdom dost thou hold,
Deep in thy strong bonds?
What knowledge dost thou keep,
In thy very center?
Knowledge of change, and time.
What canst thou tell me of life?
Please tell me what you think
