On cold winter's night as I walked down the lane
I came upon a sight that made my heart fear
a wyrewolf pack fresh at their kill
the corpse already stripped near to bone
I staid where I was just round the bend shadowed
and prayed the wind still to keep my scent
Mortal life flashing before me
When the pack leader raised its head sharp
At first I thought my life forfeit
a fool to walk the night woods all alone
But then I saw it, what drew the leader's attention
A great beast I never seen before
There are few things in this world
that can make a wyrewolf fear
This horned beast of snow white and ebony fur
sent the whole of the pack to scatter
Tails tucked and ears flat the wyrewolves sped in terror
too late for some, the horned beast jumbed down
The crack of bones as it landed amongst them
Horns goring and that remained.
I stood tranfixed at the carnage before me
fear still rooting my feet to the spot
Niether wyrewolf nor feline true
This creature seemed of both and demon too.
Moving with un-natural grace as it ate its fill
Then licking its fur clean as if a cat
It paused to listen to distant howls
The pack mourning those lost that night
My heart still in my throat the beast gave me a glance
It shimmered an swayed till it seemed my eyes lied
Then stood before me a beautiful woman, horns of ivory still
White skinned and golden eyed with ebony hair to her knees
She walked up to me close for I could not move
My eyes never leaving hers as she leaned in and sniffed
With a soft smile she kissed me, her lips cold as death
And then stepped back to reshift
The beast looked at me once, a lick to my face
Then circled and danced around me
With once last glance over its shoulder it winked
And then bound off its prey to hunt still
I know not how long I stood in the snow
A cold chill to the bone I know will never leave
I returned to the inn at last to tell my tale
Meet only with scoffs and jeers
But to this day should ever you wander
Know there are things wyrewolves fear
