One Friend in a Lifetime

One Friend in a Lifetime

Finding just one true friend
in a lifetime
is a true blessing from God.

"I'll be here for you,"
she said to me,
when I told her about the cancer,
I was frightened
of going alone,
and my husband told me
I could go by myself,
but how was I to drive?

The day of my cryosurgery,
Linda called,
"I'll pick you up
in an hour."

My appointment took hours
and her husband was on his own,
but she was with me,
and one of her daughters
was with my children.

As I sobbed from pain
she held my hand,
hers gloved, a mask over her face,
a silly bonnet over her lovely hair,
she soothed me with soft loving words
that only a friend would know to say.

The one person
who should have been with me,
was never there,
but Linda always made time
for my needs,
and I owed her everything,
for had she not been there,
however would I have endured?

God bless you, Linda.

The way you told the story, including real statements and sentiments, makes it so special...the appreciation and love for your friend is really evident, it's a beautiful acknowledgement. We are fortunate to have friends like this!

What a beautiful tribute to your friend in her time of need. Your husband was dense - a lot of guys are clueless. Still, it hurts when they're not there for you.
It's so good you friend was. Are you ok now?

Hi Sweetie. Yes, I'm good now. The best thing I did was get rid of him. I really tried for nearly 18 years, and he just grew more cold and distant. He watched a football game when I had two of my babies, and on Valentines Day, he cursed me and told me that if I wanted flowers, call the florist and send them to myself. LOL That was embarrassing to be the only woman in the entire courthouse to not have flowers.

Oh, well, Linda was always there for me, my graduation from college that he wouldn't go to, my cryosurgery, the hospitalization of our first child when he was five.

Do I carry a grudge? Not often, but when it comes to my children I do, I guess. I pray it away, but it still rears its ugly head from time to time. But friendships like Linda's never end. Than you, Hugs, Patricia

Oh how sad... which one of my friends is you BTW?? So I can get a better understanding.. Nice bg by the way ... hehe.

This is so touching to say the least. How sad it is that your own hubby would not support you in your time of need But your friend made your life a little easier by being there for you.. and I know.. if I could have.. I would have been too. Amazing write here sweety!!

I think you went over the word limit.. but that is okay.. this is too touching not to be considered!! Love you and I hope everything is sooo much better now hon Thank you for taking the time to be a part of my celebration of friendship and love!!

    Love,
    ~Krys~

Oops! Over the word limit. Well, Linda is worth it.

It's me--Grams. My first hubby never thought certain things were important. I think I lost all respect I had for him when he wouldn't take me to my appointment that day. Cryosurgery is extremely painful, and I would never have been able to drive home. Good friends are hard to find, and I believe I'd rather have a good friend than a husband anyday! (Although I do have a wonderful husband now.) Hugs, Grams
