As He drew his brush across a vast canvas of nothing
stars, nebulae, and galaxies fell out from between its bristles.
Vivid colors splashed along the black-
strewn amongst myriads of trumpet-tailed comets
and the bedazzling brilliance of a billion suns.
From each masterful stroke
vibrant worlds spun into their ellipticals
and moons captured tides pulling on the oceans
like a woman adjusting her robe
now concealing,
now revealing (ever so slightly)
as if to entice her lover’s passion.
His pallet skillfully blended the hues of sunset,
and the pigments of autumned mountains
rising from valleys draped in purple-tinged veils of mist.
He brushed the winds to plunge upon the earth
rushing through verdant forests of stippled leaves
and the bending grasses of summer’s rolling hills
like a man running fingers through the silken strands of his love.
His brush birthed the lightning and dark hearted storms
that send the sea to frothing fury,
reeling like a violent drunkard to smash itself
against foreboding walls of continental cliffs
as well as painted spectacular death scenes of exploding super novas
and the graceful fading of noble red giants.
He painted the cleansing cool of crimsomed rains at sundown
that washed the dust of the earth and flowed into placid waters
of deep, deep
forgetfulness.

The poem itself shows a great bit of talent, it shows how you imagine with your poetry. It brings out a world and puts it in a poem. I can only imagine this is even close to how God created everything.
I feel the strong sense of Love that comes from the Artist painting His picture. The sense of admiration coming from the portrait, and finally the Love shared between the Artist and His portrait. You bring out a lot of Love and imagery through this poem.
Thank you for writing and sharing this poem,
Jeff.

This invokes envy ^_^
This is absolutely beautiful and well deserving of the trophies. You have a wonderful way with words, I could see the picture you so gracefully painted as if it were right in front of me, well done and best of luck in the contest (though I highly doubt you'll need it.)

I thought the line breaking was a bit ineffective in a lot of parts of the poem, besides that this was stellar.

First off, I had to reread this many times to allow myself to slightly get used to its phenomenal affectation before I could even dare to write about it. It is bafffling with beauty. The imagery in EVERY line is so majestically vivid. I was watching the elements of creation burst onto the dark, blank canvas as if I somehow had been taken back to the beginning of time and was allowed the privelige of viewing creation first hand. All of the colors and the contrasts and the sounds continue to echo in my thoughts. You totally captured the "day unto day it utters speech" aspect of creation. Brian it was truly exhilarating!!!!
Then, I LOVED the way you used the image of the lovers to depict His intimate involvement in the creation. It made His acts seem so much more than just actions. The moon and the tides and the woman's robe was definitely one of the most original similes I have EVER read. It excites sensual feeling and utter breathlessness. Standing on the shore and watching the tide come in and out can have that same effect if you allow yourself to be drawn in, like the young lover in your piece. And I imagine that I will forever recall your stunning image everytime I visit the ocean.
When you spoke of the wind and the way it brushed through the trees and grasses, I could just picture these DEEP grooves of wind moving between the tall trees and grasses, separating them--and when you added the image of the lovers and the hair, I was like, "Yes, yes, yes!!!That's exactly right!!!" It was a perfect comparison and an incredibly vivid image.
And I must not end this comment without touching upon the incredible violence of creation you have depicted. It was extremely stimulating to the mind's ear and eye!!!!! The violence, for example, of the drunkard smashing in tremedous raging temperment against the cliffs was marvelous. It was an incredible climatic moment of your piece.
Then, you brought me right back down at the end to the peaceful, placid flowing imagery of your final lines, and completed it with the profound statment about the loving grace of God. He washes, us, the dust of the earth, with his cleansing waters and cast our iniquities into the sea of his forgetfulness. THAT WAS PURE GENIUS. It could be read on multiple levels and it was PURE GENIUS.
DID I MENTION THAT THIS POEM WAS PURE GENIUS? I am truly impressed. I didn't even get to mention the amazing sprinkling of alliteration and other wonderful poetic conventions, but I think you get the idea, I loved it.
Phenemonal work.
