The sun is setting and the water still.
Standing on the terrace as the tears flowed.
The words he used were finger tips digging
deep into the chambers of her heart.
“Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth
until the hour of separation. –”
She thinks of the quote from Kahlil Gibran
The argument was foolish that evening,
lonesomeness has an overwhelming affect
He had mistaken a few bad judgments
the architectural project had fallen through.
He lost his temper and stormed out the door.
The embers of love were burning in her heart.
In the state he was in, he could reject her.
As an optimist she will awaken his love,
separation will strengthen the bond they have.
The argument distilled all their feelings,
diluted with nasty words and accusations.
The rose bud he gave her was still in her hand.
Pulling it apart petal by petal
dropping them into the water below.
Ripples from the fountain, petals float away
emotions drained and feeling lifeless from it
She sees the caption “Heiress Spurned by Lover”
Kahlil Gibran wrote ‘If you love somebody,
let them go, for if they return, they were always yours.
And if they don't, they never were”
He will return, he will return, I know
As she drops the last petal into the water.
Standing on the terrace as the tears flowed.
The words he used were finger tips digging
deep into the chambers of her heart.
“Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth
until the hour of separation. –”

Reading this straight off, I felt it should have been left-aligned, and not centered as you have it. Just an opinion.
One of the things I like about this poem is that the quotes used do not take up the bulk of the poem, they only take up a about 3 lines of the totality of the piece. I find that to be a good thing because most people
would have the quotes take up most of the poem, where as what are actually their words would be minimal, and really what would be their's compared to who they are quoting?
This poem was fluid from beginning to end, I also liked that. A great poem that you have written here.

I enjoyed this poem. I like the way that the story progresses and yet does not end. I also like the repeated thoughts throughout, it creates anticipation as well as a sadness and compliments the philosophy of Gibran well. Nicely penned.

This is a very impressive write. It draws the reader in immediately, and builds to a stirring ending. I hope he does return and in my mind he does! Great write. Best of luck in the contest.

This poem does end a little mysteriously, but that adds a great depth to this piece. Overall, I like it. Great write, and good luck in the contest.

Thank you very much for the entry
This is such a beautiful and poignant piece here, nice work. The ending where she has dropped the last petal, made me wonder if she will stop or keep telling herself that he’ll be back. Nice imagery as well in this poem. Thank you very much for taking the time to write for` and enter our contest, and for following the rules.
Best wishes always
