American Pride

Missing image

This is my country land of my birth
I'm so blessed to call America home,
in my eyes it supersedes all others on earth
from this splendid beauty I never wish to roam.

Red White and Blue fills our country today
as we celebrate this fourth of July,
with pride and appreciation proudly displayed
and an abundance of fireworks that light up the sky.

Each launching set off with a thunderous blast
as the "Stars Spangled Banner" we sing,
we reflect and honor true patriots of past
who vigilantly fought so that freedom may ring.

Brilliant colors mirrored through sparkling eyes
as oohs and aahs resound in the air,
a renewed sense of unity once again realized
while caught up in a trance of mesmerized stares.

In the night like a back drop our American flag waves
although a bit torn and tattered,
displaying her battle scars as the road she paves
to victory from times when our world becomes shattered.

Where freedom is threatened she'll always be raised
even down to her very last thread,
hands joined together while singing her praise
resolved and determined to protect our homestead.

Whatever your position on the war in Iraq
please give our soldiers their due,
on this day above all don't put them under attack
they still protect liberty for me and for you!!!

To our troops who are serving at home and abroad
your sacrifice is not in vain,
though the road to freedom is not easily trod
an imminent victory you are sure to attain.

So on this fourth of July may we truly reflect
and celebrate our freedom's birth,
that our country no matter what it's defects
is still By Far the grandest country on earth!!!!

Author notes

I felt like today I should write a poem that honors my country as well as the past and present troops who have and are serving us.With all of our faults to me this is still by far the grandest country on earth and may our God bless us and especially those who are sacrificing family and friends by serving our country at home and abroad. OK, I WILL DELETE ANY COMMENT THAT TRASHES MY COUNTRY!!! THIS IS A TRIBUTE TO THE SOLDIERS AND AMERICA SHOWING MY APPRECIATION FOR ALL THEY DO !!!SO IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING POSITIVE DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!

    amazing....

i wasn't born in the states,
but i've spent my life here and i love this piece...
i can't decide whether or not i want to be happy,
or if i want to cry. i love this, i really do.
after losing my brother and my best friend in Iraq,
it was like everyone i came in contact with
was blaming them for the choice they made
instead of understanding that they were standing up
for a country they believed in...
in a sense this has kind of renewed my faith in Americans.... Thanks so much :]]

Thank you for this display of patriotism. You echo what is in my own heart. As a US soldier deployed to Korea right now, I appreciate messages such as this.

    Few realize it...

but this country is the recipient of the physical blessings promised to Abraham that were withheld for thousands of years.

Of course, while I agree, this country is both blessed and a blessing to all other nations (who choose not to pit themselves against us), we should be careful not to make the USA an idol...humble pride is called for--the paradoxical oxymoron that will (maybe I should say "could") keep this country from flaming out as time winds down. Even the Israelites came to see themselves as untouchable because they were "chosen"...they forgot that the man named Israel walked with a limp precisely because YHWH "touched" him on his hip. This country, like the apostle Paul, needs to acknowledge that it has a thorn in the flesh, and accept and live the humility that limps and thorns symbolize.

I'm afraid I don't like jingoist poetry (even Scottish jingoist poetry, even though I'm proud to be a Scot). I think a country's greatest patriot is its sternest critic - like Woodie Guthrie in the case of America.

However, I do appreciate the construction of this poem, and I can see you put in a lot of hard work. Keep on writing, because you have considerable talent. Best wishes.
    M.

(By the way, your notes say: "IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING POSITIVE DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL", but right under that you have left the "Please tell me what you think" facility on. I think someone else below has mentioned this little contradiction.)

anyway the black text gets obscured by the dust ash behind it

Americans will always be known for their great patriotism; as is obvious in this poem. Liked the flow, the rhythm, rhyme and sentiments you express so well in these lines. Easy to read and understand how you feel about your country. Especially on July 4 - to recognize all those that have fought for the country in the past and that do now as well.

What a wonderful poem! We all know that God has a special place in His heart for the USA; after all, that is why He has blessed it with freedom and large portions of food, whilst the rest of the world suffers under Satan's slavery and starves.
