Stuck in this exposed foxhole
The sun beating down
Our situation is precarious.
Fred proffers a cigarette
No word passes.
Words are superfluous
At times like these.
Grateful for his company
Time enough for talking
If we get out of this alive
And share a beer
In a cool bar.

Having never been in this situation, I can only imagine the unspoken bonds that would be created. This poem tells of the loyalty and trust we share in the most stressful of times. Thank you for your entry. Peace, Liz

There are times, when words are not needed.
You have told us of a time that most of us
could not imagine. This was good, very good. -
Superb!
A terrific entry for this contest. Excellent images here and so much strength portrayed in that silent moment. I just loved this. BEST of luck, but I doubt you will need it. ~Pamela

Kind poet sir, are your poems about military service based on your true life? I suspect they are, and I admire your talent and am glad (very) that you survived to tell us about those past times.
