November 9th, it's 3 in the morning.
A knock at my door startles me.
I go to find a friend at my door.
Telling me to call my mom.
Puzzled I ask what for?
She shrugs her shoulders,
A lie she can't speak.
Mom answers the other line.
She has been cryin'.
is everything okay, her voice is weak.
Praying the answer will be yes.
Your sister has been in an accident.
I couldn't hear the rest.
The words she didn't make it pierced through my soul.
It can't be true, Wake up!
Oh my God is this for real?
I do 90 all the way to Mom's,
I'm not sure which planet I was on.
Numb to life, pain, and my fear.
Telling myself, "it's all going to be a misunderstanding when I get here."
Walk through the door much to my dismay.
Everything is far from okay.
My sister is gone,
A life that can never be replaced.
All because some man went driving drunk today.
Took a life without a care.
Bitched about his truck,
Making my temper flare.
My niece lost her mother.
A position that can be filled by no other.
Stuck in daze.
I can't believe this shit happened this way.
Never had a chance.
She lost her life saving a friend.
What I would give just to talk her again.
Spent years denying she was gone.
Hoping one day she'd come back home.
Having to face this grim reality,
My big sister is never coming back to me.
