Struggling

Pimps, prostitutes and bums
all misfits
more or less.

Just so much waste material
thrown out casually
at one of the side doors
of the world
or so they say.

People with lives
taken a turn
for the worst
struggling
to get through each day.

The pimp
once a law student
lost all he had
when Daddy's company
lost its big client.

The prostitute
a young mother
trying to keep
her child from starving
because her two day jobs
don't pay enough
to keep them in their home.

The bum
evicted yesterday
forced out on the streets
with family all gone
and job sent overseas.

People with lives
taken a turn
for the worst
struggling
to get through each day.

Every life has a story to tell. What put this person out on the street? Or that person? You present some good reasons to offer compassion to these "misfits". In many cases it is mental illness that puts them there. In other cases they are driven to make the choices they are having to live with--their beds made and so they lay in them. In any case, I like your message but the delivery is a bit on the trite side and you have a couple typos (e.g. The saying is "turn for the worse"). Still, I am glad I got the chance to read this!

This actually reflects my thoughts almost to a T. We never stop to think that everyone is somebody's mother, brother, sister or something and they DO mean something to somebody somewhere. You never know what you yourself would do until you walk in someone else's shoes and view life through there eyes and their tears. Nice job here! Thank you for entering my contest and good luck!

how true this is. it is said that each one of us is only about two paychecks away from being homeless. That does not say much for a country that is supposed to be one of the richest in the world. Well said and best wishes in the contest,
