Milk them for money
Turn prayers into gold
One place in heaven bought
A million more to be sold
Dine on their sweet sacrifice
Your tender little flock
Sheep for the fleecing
Lamb for your plate
Latch onto their desperation
Feed into their hate
You can use them for your whims
As you dine upon their flesh
Herd them about in circles
Call it a test of faith
You can have a bleating army
At your corrupt fingertips
You became a televangelist because
You're too debauched for politics

Nicely done. A sad but fairly accurate portrayal of much of todays so called tv evangelism. I ignore it myself.
I like the metaphorical reference of people as being sheep herded to slaughter. That is basically what it amounts to in a financial sense.
Controversial to some perhaps, but I like it.
Good write.

A good poem but alas not much in the way of arguments going on in the comments, which is what I wanted, poems that caused a stir. Well, with the exception of bob 42 who is clearly retarded.

It's truly sad that this has been case all too often, and gives the good ones a bad name. I loved how you turned those oft-used expressions back onto themselves so snidely in this piece. It really brought home how filthy is the corruption.

I REALLY like this piece. I too do not care very much for televangelists. It just seems a little...not sure of the correct word...superficial to me.
To me, belief and spirituality comes from within. I don't believe it's found through the TV set.
Be proud of this piece...I think it's great

How very true this is and the corruption preys upon people who know no difference. Good write about this subject. Thanks for sharing.

very controversial. We are told in the last days many will be led astray by false prophets and we see them daily as you say selling religion to followers who are blind like sheep and do not watch carefully and be discerning as we are warned to do. We all remember the Jonestown example. There are corrupt poloticians and religous leaders as you sayl. In both cases it is our responsibility to judge based on scripture who we should support and who we should by lack of support not give power to.

Indeed, it is a sad truth that some people will bilk others in the name of their beliefs. It's disturbing that people can be preyed upon (pun intended) that way by those who should be helping to guide them in a better life.

Offensive
May God have mercy on your soul. I say that as an American where we have religious freedom. -
-
That's cool. But the topic I'm discussing has nothing to do with God. This poem is about men who twist religion and faith into a way to get money out of desperate, dgullible people.

i think it should be "Lamb for your plate"
its not parallel with "Sheep for the fleecing " unless its like i said...
