Birth of Man

Ascended from the African plains,
A blurry ancestor awakens.
His eyes are wide, as the days of primal instinct
Fall to the era of obsidian wit.

The crack of a bone goes unheard
Against the crackling of fire
As shadows of ancient faces dance
Across the surface of the cave.

Invention is born
From the drive for survival
As culture is sprung from the realm
Of conceptual mist.

A widened mind
And identity's arrival
Fuel cerebral flames
Of evolution unchecked.

A sense of self
And a moment's revival
Detach the lucid creature
From nature's pure bliss,

But the key has been turned
And the doorway lies open
As the psyche drifts beyond
The facade of the horizon.

Overall I really like this poem mainly because it makes a person think
