Dissolving Fear (Spenserian Sonnet) - Video Slam

Missing image

When peace of mind appears so hard to find
For nightmares haunt your sleep and cause you fear
While scenes of horror in your mind unwind
Or scary monsters in your dreams appear

Please be assured and wipe your salty tear
Those dragons are just products of your thought
Your conscious gaze will make them disappear
Like smoke, all phantoms shall return to naught

Forget the past and all the battles fought
And choose the sword of present moment’s sight
A precious lesson have those demons taught
To bring unconscious fears into the light

And soon, instead of fear you shall embrace
Abundant gifts of peaceful joy and grace

    Exceptional

Congratulations on winning the silver trophy with this beautiful poem, you surely deserved it and more. I suppose pleasure and fear and the darkness of ignorance go together, but where there is love and joy and light, there is no fear. Anyway, just a tremendous sonnet, maa. I really love how your sonnet themes are not typical of old english concerns, but address issues such as this one.

    All the best,
    David

    Resting in the open....

A truly beautiful thought, posed in truly beautiful form. Resting in the open Presence of Now, all demons AND all angels fade to the timeless, nonjudgmental Being of One. Write on, li'l sis!

Be ever bright and blessed, Rahad

wow- every child needs a mother like you- cause children grow up with fears they never speak about, yet affect their mind and focus on their daily tasks, and interactions. This poem also speaks to adults like me too- I have used this technique very often, not just with nightmares, but any time I am tempted to distort reality in any way. This is an amazing sonnet. I am glad you wrote it!

thank you for your sweet comment, dear duana ...
especially about considering maa as a desirable mother to all children ... I don't have any children on my own, and actually always thought that I would have been a terrible mother ... possessive and controlling ...
so now I "mother" at a distance, indirectly through poetry ...
I guess we are all distorting reality through our habit of mental projection, so welcome to the club ...
seeing things as they really are ... so simple ... yet seeming so difficult ...

      all the best to you,

      maa

Oh my! My dear sister, I love the Spenserian Sonnet and you write them so well. This is lovely, it reminds me of something we would tell a child to give strength to fight the bad dreams and teach the power of peace and grace.

    Love,
    Amera ♥
