Flames.
Flickering, dancing in front of my eyes.
Smoke rising from the fire,
encircling the leafs on the trees,
and stars in the sky.
A sea of black laced with sparkling embers.
A mist of hope with everything remembered.
The sounds of people laughing;
The waves washing in,
Almost make you want this night to never end.
The flames grow higher,
but will eventually decline.
I'll wake up on this beach tomorrow,
and I'll know it was all a waste of time.

Oh. The ending was really now what I expected. Why was it a waste of time?
The first part made me think back to the times I've gone to see a bon fire with my friends and have a party. As you said - "almost make you want this night to never end." -
