Beneath a spreading willow tree
Beside a sparkling babbling brook,
I marvel at the beauty of this fine summer day
As I relax with a thought provoking book.
As of late I have been fascinated by the prospect
Of intelligent extraterrestrial life
And I also wonder if they would even be interested
In all this sad and woeful human strife.
I mean, after all the mistakes and lessons learned
The human race still has a long way to go,
So maybe we could use a little superior knowledge;
In an effort to help us evolve and grow.
But then I remember a popular story
About a visitor who once came to earth,
A Supreme Being who came to save us all;
By way of Divine and miraculous birth.
As I open the Holy Bible and read through its pages,
I am fascinated by the wisdom that I find
And I am a little less confused by the mysteries of life;
As I am spiritually no longer blind.
Beneath a spreading willow tree
Beside a sparkling babbling brook,
I marvel at the beauty of this fine summer day
As I relax with a thought provoking book.
Author notes
"The Holy Bible is enigmatic to some, but very pragmatic to me."

Okay this was a good write and I enjoyed reading it, I thank you for entering, and I get where you are coming from with it. Many people stretch things out and get confused, but inside the bindings of The Bible is a lot of very interesting and good notes and scriptures, it speaks to many people each day and although people can get confused if they read it as they would a book they would understand quite clearly.
Why? Because it is a book. It is a collection of stories, a tome, a place to find peace and to be closer to God. It helps us see what we need and what we should be doing. Do we have to read it? No. Do we have to obey what is said? No. We don't have to do anything, but at the same we could kill everyone in sight, but it doesn't mean we should.
Could and should-two very different things. Long comment short, I loved it and I agree with it, so please keep on writing and thank you for entering my contest.

this is a very peaceful & thought-provoking poem. i like it. the rhyming works with it, too. it's not forced, & the flow is nice & smooth. while it made me think, it was a peaceful thinking. i love the way you went to the Bible in the poem, too. & repeating the first stanza at the end was perfect.
good luck!

This is beautiful. It's true that the more into the bible you get, the less confusing life seems. There is an answer to every thing in the bible. This has such a calm, lovely feel.
