And maybe that isn’t such a bad thing
For you are eternally walking
In fields of gold -- in heaven
And you are not
Selling surfboards or Nike shoes
Your face is not on a mayonnaise jar
And I don’t have to hear you tell me
How great Wal-Mart is
You died before
Hollywood suffocated you
You died too young
But one day I’ll get to hear you
Strum your guitar
In those fields of barley
Author notes
The song "Fields of Gold" was originally released by Sting, but the version I'm referring to is the one released by Eva Cassidy. Eva didn't become popular until after her death from Melanoma in 1996...
This song is best known as being that song that Michelle Kwan ice-skated to in 2002... Michelle received a gold record for this, because she made Eva and her song a household name.
I was only five years old at that time, and eleven years later, I'm getting a chance to realize what I missed out on.
RIP, EVA
