My First Uh-Oh Word

I was about six or seven,
the time that forbidden word I did utter.
I was playing a game, and naturally I lost,
for I was playing my big brother.

" You blank!" I yelled
what was this?
my parents rushed in,
as I was shaking my fist.

Where did you learn that?
my parents both roared.
my brother so tickled with it,
he lay laughing on the floor.

I thought for a moment,
I didn't know where.
I made up a lie,
because frankly I was quite scared.

They gave me a warning,
and quite assured,
I skipped out happily,
never again would I speak the word.

Playing with my brother and the dog,
all was pretty well,
until my dog knocked me over,
and onto the ground I fell.

" You blank!" I cried.
no sooner did the word I utter,
my brother took off inside,
screaming all the way "mother!"

I dusted myself off.
What could I do, it was too late.
slowly I walked toward the house,
to receive my cursed fate.

Nice little story of growing sophistication… I’m not very keen on the twisted syntax or ‘uttering’ do kids still utter¿? At least to me it seemed out of place in this context.

Well, I thought this was cute but it didn't really make me laugh...and it seemed more like a story than a poem... thank you for entering and good luck.

I got a kick out of this and it took me back a ways to my own childhood when my mother washed my mouth out with soap when I sad the awful word! A delight to read! Thanks for sharing and best wishes!

    Excellent

This poem is full of humour and reminds me of childhood. The flow is excellent and you create a vivid picture, I can imagine you quaking in your shoes. Best of luck in the contest.

This poem is absolutely cute. To me, the rhyme in this poem seems genuine and not forced at all. Even the half-rhymes you used work really well. Even though this poem does not end well for the little child it is humourous. nice.
