in the deep dark of night
with nary a peep
you daren't close your eyes
lest you're taken in your sleep
for the wind blows a gale
rattling the windows outside
where dark clouds cover the moon
like a shroud over your eyes
and the trees gnarly branches
tap out a tattoo refrain
and scratch with skeletal fingers
across the dark window pane
where the banshees and ghoulies
dance just out of sight
of your eyes tightly closed
against the heart stopping night
so come hither here with me
to a place near your grave
where the darkness presses in
and the dead start to rave
join hands in a circle
and hold your last breath
for the boogermen come calling
as you leap to your death
across rooftops and chimneys
beyond the height of the moon
travelling passed all the dark stars
that dance like goblins in your room
so where is this place
where the dark magic flows
why it's inside your head
where even the brave fear to go...
with nary a peep
you daren't close your eyes
lest you're taken in your sleep
for the wind blows a gale
rattling the windows outside
where dark clouds cover the moon
like a shroud over your eyes
and the trees gnarly branches
tap out a tattoo refrain
and scratch with skeletal fingers
across the dark window pane
where the banshees and ghoulies
dance just out of sight
of your eyes tightly closed
against the heart stopping night
so come hither here with me
to a place near your grave
where the darkness presses in
and the dead start to rave
join hands in a circle
and hold your last breath
for the boogermen come calling
as you leap to your death
across rooftops and chimneys
beyond the height of the moon
travelling passed all the dark stars
that dance like goblins in your room
so where is this place
where the dark magic flows
why it's inside your head
where even the brave fear to go...
Author notes
a little Poe to go...
...the Boogerman are dark angels dressed in spats & crooked top hats that inhabit a series of dark fairy tales I've been playing around with for the past several years...

Wonderful write. The rhymes weren't forced and though it was a little hard to find the rhythm of the poem, I did eventually find it. Thank for entering. Great poem. Good luck. [=

Beautiful poem. Dark and haunting. Definately a "poe to go". This is exactly what I was looking for in this contest. Nice tribute, good luck in my contest.

Cool tale. Reminded me of Tim Burton. Congrats on the Gold!

Sounds like a halloween poem. I loved the descriptive imagery here. It really takes you to this place in your mind.
This stanza stood out to me with the imagery:
and the trees gnarly branches
tap out a tattoo refrain
and scratch with skeletal fingers
across the dark window pane
