We're still waiting
for it to come--
this awakening,
this white, soft light
radiating
and spilling from the sky.
But the blackened
night
is always alive--
waiting to engulf us.
So we try our best to endure,
to hang on to hope
but still we die
each day;
such a grey, grey
atrocity.
Generations have believed
in gods, in faith
but we have not received
solidity.
Hanging on for a glimpse
of something graceful,
a mere morsel
of peace, of sleep
we will wake from
yet still we slumber.
Weeping while sinking
into a universe of vastness
where we will meet
with empty things
or gravity.

I like the uncertainty in this..there's an achiness to it, I think. "Hanging on for a glimpse of something graceful...' Yes, yes, yes. This resonates more than you could know.
Beautiful. -
This is so brilliantly written in its simplicity. Your words held a vast amount of power for such a short poem (well... short compared to mine!), and the imagery therein wasn't overdone or trite.
Also, nice background colour. It really gives the feel of being stuck between the white radiance you mentioned in the first stanza and the all-encompassing night that lies in wait for us.
Great poem. You get the first applause I've ever given out on AP!

The words in this poem are quite compelling...very profound. I believe these things are present in our lives. They happen. But the way you've managed to pen them, well, is astonishing!

"Weeping while sinking deeply
into a universe of vastness
where we will meet
with empty things... or gravity."
Profound & lovely, Sweetie. I'll see ya there, my Friend...with a bouquet of words resplendent in their silent rapture...

thanks for your nice comment. I do feel I should clear up the last bit of the poem: I am basically stating that we don't know what we will meet with, whether it be nothing or whether it be eternity.
I have been wading in a place of not knowing for quite a while now.

hmm thought-provoking to say the least. This is really good. I love how it starts. Sounds like an ending to something but then again it's the total opposite case here. anyway. faa la
