The image of the simple form
Cast a ripple of a shadow
Through the cask of the hidden mind
With a dying sky growing darker
And the strained cloves
Of human desire reaching heavenward
The ruin of a tortured nature
Cast its venom-kiss upon the earth
Her weak frame was set upon
The feeble arms through resisting
There it was right before her-
The mortal wish of the ruined land
The jolting impassion, a welcome gift
The towers around her
Too like the city of her lucid reality
Too like the humanity, thrust downward
The poison dripping from their spires
A plague, fuming the air around her
Her only rebellion
Was the darker confines of her mind
Where the serpent's bite brings ecstasy
And not the harsh reality that was the snake
The cloud of envy too strong a feeling
(The need of the serpent lover could she no longer deny)
This is her rebellion
This is her desire
A picture painted with her slight imagination
The ruined locale the locus of her lover
(To sleep, but never to dream)
