Late June 07. For any who may be interested, 'Late June' 2006, is typed beneath this one.
Okay, so this month has been pretty wet;
Rains seem to have been constant, ev'ry day;
Sim'lar to the previous month of May.
Still, did this plenty of plant growth beget;
As rich fertile soil and the moisture met;
Causing trees, with fresh green leaves, to array;
If beneath a dull sky, sullen and grey,
This awakening, in nature, was set.
On field borders, some corn stalks are yellow;
Though part of the rest, down flat, has been blown;
Nevertheless, is it burgeoning well.
New plums are growing , if not yet mellow;
To make a stout start, at least, have they shown;
But how soon they'll ripen, who can yet tell.

Most ducks have now their chicks to water led.
Red poppies, amongst the wheat, are in bloom.
Country riding-clubs, stout stalwart steeds groom.
Pink spotted cinnabars, are all but fled;
Near tall grass, meadow browns are seen instead.
Round hedges, great bindweed is finding room.
For furry voles does the hunting hawk zoom;
Intending its young, on such, to be fed.
By nestling cottages do jasmines twine,
With tiny blossoms that are starry-white.
Honeysuckle and passiflora too,
Up trellises, aspiring strands, combine;
Their golden and blue, presenting this sight,
Persuade us that summer is far from through.
