because my dog fancies her paws rubbed
because oak leaves tan to brown each fall
because hot apple pie is served with ice cream
because my grandchildren giggle at my jokes
because sun kyes the sky at early evening
because sandalwood candles shine with fragrance
because my tattered sweaters still warm over clothes
because classical music touches me below the skin
because today's supernatural computers know everything
because fiction books swallow me into fantasy
because some days two surprises happen
because to learn leaves me wanting more
because of all of these I wake each day to live

I liked this…the structure is very simple, which is I think what makes it work, and there are some lovely sentiments in there. I think my favourite line was ‘because some days two surprises happen’ – one of those truly poetic lines that make the reader wonder why they’ve never thought of it before.

...because I read your poem, I learnt a bit about you. I like the exercise. I like the first line becasue I have a litle dog also. I also like classical music, apple pie and my own grandchildren. This poem had a lot of feelings to share and makes me happy. I hope I get two surprises a day.

The repetition of "because" is fun...leading us from line to line. This was great work and wonderful imagery in each line! Loved "because classical music touches me below the skin" the best

Great poem and it brings all the important things in our lives and why--because. My favorite lines are the first two and the last but I really like all of them. Also like how you get the different senses in there. Thumbs-up on this one.
