Stumped

Students and singers are two different things,
faintly resembling paupers and kings.
I told you once, and I told you again --
If you ever meet him, shut up until then.

English is truly the hardest to learn
That's truer still when his vocal cords churn
Lay off the pop, so we'll know you're still fine --
Instead - take a chill pill, sit down and recline.

Author notes

My friend has a morbid expression with Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy. It drives me NUTS.

I never do rhyme, so this might be a little rusty. Forgive me.

I know exactly what you mean. I don't like them at all. I think they have some pretty good music (mind you, NOT lyrics) but more than half the time I really have no clue what they're saying. Many times I've pressed my ear against the speakers to try to figure it out, but I still don't know!

Yes, they do have some cool tunes - Pretty much the only reason I listen to them. Thnks fr th Mmrs is pretty good music-wise, for one.

But the titles kill me. Every time. When putting songs on my Zen, "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me + You)" had to be deleted and replaced with "I Deleted The Title Because It Was Too Freaking Long." Sad but true.

It really shows up that way when I play it, too.

Ha ha. That's pretty interesting. Your rhyme and rhythm were good.

I didn't really understand what you meant by tge first line of the second stanza. I actually thought the first stanza could stand alone as a single poem.

    Congrats on your placing.

I've joked about Fall Out Boy: "NEVER let a beginning student of the English language listen to Patrick Stump sing." English has been considered the hardest language to learn, and Patrick's singing sounds unintelligible to most (well, to me anyway.)There are many a video on YouTube with misheard lyrics for "This Ain't A Scene," "Sugar We're Going Down" and others. It's actually pretty funny what you can come up with.

It is amazing when someone feels they have a special bond with an entertainer. This was well rhymed and flowed nicely too. Good luck in this contest. Peace, Liz

Actually the rhyme was great and so was the flow. Great job.
