she was a stone
in every respect unmoving
a rain of tongues
yet still, a synonym
fearing and feeding the surface
open through her canvas pores
to ambiguous direction,
she shrinks from the brush
draws back from the colors
of painted speech and suspended animation
everyone plods through
for the nuisance talent, "the Abstract Freshman"
with a quiver her creations shed age
i could have sworn
i knew that girl.
Author notes

and self-pity.
