I. Graceless as ever she falls into love
Her heart a reckless organ with no personal regard
Often making all the decisions for her
She spends wasted weeks trying to get him to see
Finally she realizes she is truly invisible
giving up all hope in love and boys
She moves through the year in a haze
Barely touching anyone, anything
Her parents worry far too much
She doesn't look quite right anymore
Her shine just doesn't light up the room
She's convinced no one can see her destruction
But they can
II. He barely makes it to the car before it leaves
Bracing himself for what is to come next
the slur of accusations and curses never as bad as the worry
Worry that maybe his dad is right after all
Failure comes naturally to him.
Worry makes him stay up late sweating off pounds
Trying to gain acceptance.
He works too hard for someone he hates.
Lateness is only just cause for mental torture
It's when he loses the game, drops the ball.
That worry really hits.
Worry becomes about hiding.
Hiding the bruises, so they won't know
Hiding himself from others, so they won't care
Because that's a whole new world of worry
He knows he could not let his father
Take love from him.
Hurt love because of him.
Let love know he was a failure.
III. She's dropping weight by the minute
She looks like a zombie. The walking dead.
She's sure that no one has noticed.
He's walking with his head down.
Hoping no one can see.
The cut running down his face.
His father's championship ring is quite sharp.
He hears his name, chancing a glance up
who is calling him remains a mystery
He's seen the invisible girl
She stops dead in her tracks.
No one has seen her since January.
Since she resigned to a life of nothingness
He smiles and she sparks alive
Looking better already.
He asks her name and she stumbles over the words
All the months of silence endured
messed with her tongue
He takes her hand and they walk together
Both being seen for the first time.
She lights his way
And his failures slip away

I think we've been on either side of the fence at some point in our life time. It's a great epic with great word choice.
