Bathroom Floor

1 Fall
They thrusted them upon her:
words and eyes,
mouths and disregard
but she held thin lips pursed
silently withstanding
until her knees buckled
beneath the gloom of the nightmare,
they turned their backs
arms outstretched
to catch themselves
in their own misery
and her solid face
devoid of emotion
quivered
and strength smiled
dispersing throught pores
in search of a deserving host
and nothing broke her fall
but the cold, bitter tiles
that lined the bathroom floor.

2 Embrace
The moonlight streamed
from the dark overhead
of her nightmare
as she lay awake
and slid down porcelain cheeks
to fragile bones,
with skin wrapped taught,
twisted
is such a manner
she knew she ought to move
but she was all too comfortable
with her soft cheek
compressed against
the hard, innocent, pearl surface
of the tile
that held her-
not at all
as she lay frozen:
their mouths and disregard,
lies and stares,
frozen on the bathroom floor.

3 Renewal
Her eyes knew no tears
and their words no mercy
and she couldn't
pick herself up,
not this time
no this time
she would lay there
not thinking
eyes iced over
as if from the scene
in a horror movie,
forgiveness called in sick
understanding unreachable
and strength
proved more evasive
than a thought
in her barren mind,
she couldn't heal
she couldn't face it again:
the lies and stares,
smiles and truth
because she couldn't
pick herself up
from the unwelcoming embrace
of the bathroom floor.
