He sits down on the wooden park bench
Holds his shaved head in his hands.
Another man left to wonder why
He gave everything for a piece of land.
Before he had boarded that airplane
To leave behind a life he loved so much
A man came to pray for all of them
For their well-being, strength, and such.
Now that he has time to think it over
He knows the men over there did the same
Calling on God to protect them too
Telling him they were fighting in his name.
So he wonders how two different countries,
Both of which God loved and made
Could ask him to choose just one of them
As they killed, saying they had his aid.
None of this made any sense right now.
The freedom he fought for was bound in chains
By nightmares of faces he had destroyed
And the confusion raced through his veins.
Why didn't he trust in God to work it out?
It may take time, but the promise was there.
He knew it was but had forgotten
It laid in the Bible at the Lord's prayer.
He asked God for his Kingdom to come
And his own Will to take place on this earth.
Yet he had fought for a government
That put too much importance on their worth.
So that day he handed in all his weapons
And a uniform covered in holes.
He may have given up much of his life
But he'd now let God be in control.
Holds his shaved head in his hands.
Another man left to wonder why
He gave everything for a piece of land.
Before he had boarded that airplane
To leave behind a life he loved so much
A man came to pray for all of them
