There was a little linnet, who once
sang happily all day long.
Until a handsome prince rode by,
who wanted to own her song.
He took her to his palace,
and keep her singing there.
He then carried on his life of ease
and forgot about her care.
The linnet in the golden cage,
stopped singing and faded fast.
The Prince had other interests,
and the linnet was downcast.
But with every bit of willpower
(she had lost so much weight)
She squeezed through those golden bars.
and the palace she did vacate.
Flying free and singing brightly
as her heart was meant to do.
The Linnet grew too beautiful
for the Prince, and his friends too.
They sent out all the huntsmen,
to find, and bring her down.
They hunted her until her end.
Now she is a Creature of renown.
But you will find no memorial
to her beauty or her worth.
Her singing is forgotten
By those born of great highbirth.
A leaking concrete fountain
not beautiful or great.
The linnet is all but forgotten.
By those of high Estate.

at Wembly Stadium on the 10th Anniversary of
their Mother`s death. She would have been
46 this year.

That is a powerful write. We all need to fly out of our cages at one time or the other. I wish you gold with this write.

I love the idea of 'the caged bird singing', classic and beautiful. This story was told so well, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
Thanks for entering and good luck!
