youth blessed me with much hope
reflected in the shine
peeping out from a wide grin;
before the stain of knowledge
invaded slowly with certainties
I never wanted to accept;
as age crawled
and chipped away my carefree face
leaving nothing but cracks
in the false veneers of my smile;
I yearn once more
for that wide grin
with hope still reflecting
from between the innocence
of youthful enamel;
