the red door was always there
it was never black or white
the new smell of fresh wood
the dirt pile on the lawn
are gone, gone, along with the
spaghetti sauce wallpaper in the kitchen
but age has not changed its face
because of the red door
which was an escape from
the green skinned witch of the night
and the hard faced girls of the day
the girls who said no, no and
look at her shoes and
you're a dog that's all
but in the house with the red door
she's the most beautiful girl
with no rivals because
beer bellied dad says so
and the blue diary has fat letters
that say "I want to lose weight"
and "Courtney is a funny name"
and "Watership Down is the best book"
down the driveway on a
blue plastic skateboard
a four leaved clover is found
and pressed into a book of fairy-tales
alone is the only safety
alone is peaceful and cozy
alone behind the red sentinel
no need for prayers
just the blue diary and the girl
Please tell me what you think

and "Watership Down is the best book"
I am especially taken by that line. It helps me imagine a face to the quiet little dreamer. The girl that doesn't quite fit the typical childhood bill...but that doesn't want to. I guess that I was that guy too. School sucked. At least until high school. I was poor and different, so I would just play my walkman and read my choose your own adventure books. You're a wildly talented writer, why have you not posted anything for so long?

I love this! You paint such a magnificent picture of a youngster being able to escape her own treacherous turmoil of growing up. Kids are sometimes mean and life is sometimes hard, but if we are able to create beauty from chaos, we are able find the strength to survive. There is much brilliance here. I hear ya sister.

Wow! This is a brilliant piece of work you've done here. It gripped me and would not let go. As I read this I cannot help but to feel empty at the ending, as though I have left something behind with her, maybe baggage. Excellent piece!

Aw, this is lovely, I enjoy your style, and... everything. It seems you write with a gentle hand, whether it's of heartbreak or a child and her diary
Bravo

Bonjour, mademoiselle sock. I return after a two month absence. I was on a journey of self-discovery. Turns out I was working as a bar wench in a small fishing village off the coast of Wales. Who'da thunk it.
...That aside, it is nice to come back and be reassured by your constant quality. This is a great write. ... It's a girl's tale but i'm fairly sure anyone can understand that wanting, if only sometimes, to escape our everyday reality and just be something more than we may actually be. Somewhere where no one can encroach on our dreams.
Well done all around.

I enjoyed reading it because by making the drive way a dirt road the door white and Wednesday was Prince spaghetti night. They lived down the road from me when I was young

In a childs mind
Yes I think I have the meaning for within the house the red door was her safe place within the castle where others finds her a dog yet her dad even though drunken lets her know otherwise and thats just enough
